Next stop South Georgia

Today we are leaving the Falkland Islands, heading toward South Georgia. The crew is very excited about our next stop. We have been told that the three days we spend in South Georgia is going to leave a lasting impression.

We are back out at sea and the waters are fairly calm, which makes us very happy. Each day as we have gone out on zodiacs small black and white dolphins have followed us playing in the wake of the zodiac. We are also getting a nice view from our balcony and every now and then we see a penguin or dolphin swimming along side of the ship. It is impossible to see a penguin and not smile, their little waddling butts are just too cute.

The temperature is lowering with very stop we make, Buenos Aires 90s, Falkland Islands 50s, over the next few days the temperature will continue to drop.

2 1/2 days until we reach South Georgia, we are currently heading south east

Penguin facts:
- 18 species world wide
- 5 species found in Antarctica (Adelie, Emperor, Macaroni, Chinstrap, Gentoo)
- they live only in the southern hemisphere
- they best divers of all birds
- have the most dense feathering of any bird

We finally got our sea legs!

Antarctica tourist organization is very serious about keeping the places we are visiting pristine. We have to sanitize our boots as we leave the ship and when we return. The days when we go ashore in Antarctica staff members will actually check our boots, jackets, back packs and anything else we plan to take with us. They do not want to introduce any foreign objects into the environment.
