Georgia on my mind... (South Georgia that is)

Almost through our 2 1/2 day sail to South Georgia, we will drop anchor at 11:00 pm tonight. It certainly gives an idea on how very far we are traveling. We are now 6 hours ahead of California. The seas are still fairly calm, and we have been really lucky with weather. The temperature is dropping and the days are getting longer.

Today we passed by Shag Rock, rocks that stick out of the sea in the middle of no where. We also did some whale watching, we had a humpback and southern right whale. Early today we saw a minke whale.

Yesterday we did our first Bio security check, anything that we plan to take ashore on South Georgia was inspected and cleaned. We have also been told that while we are docked at South Georgia the ship will be blacked out (no lights on after the sun sets) Birds are attracted to the lights and would fly into the ship.

Over the past several days Antarctica has been experiencing earthquakes, which apparently is not unusual. We are safe and have no worries of anything bad happening.

No worries about our ship crashing into land, we don't have an Italian Captain. :) In fact the crew has told us that if we do an unannounced landing it's a good thing.

BTW, did I mention we are going to a see more penguins!
