Exciting day in Buenos Aires
Well, today was an exciting day here in Buenos Aires... protests and police action (no Cheryl was not involved)
Let me start from when we arrived on Tuesday... there is an outdoor pedestrian mall on Florida St. that is lined with shops on both sides and street vendors down the middle of the walk. On Tuesday the street was filled with street vendors, on Wednesday when we went back, we noticed increased police and local news camera crew presence and no street vendors. We finally found out that they are trying to keep the street vendors away as they are taking business from the local shops. The street vendors started a small protest yesterday and today it really picked up... they started lining the center of the street and playing loud drums and horns, making walking down the street a horrible experience. Later we were sitting at an outside cafe (enjoying a bottle of Malbec) and people started running away and the police presence increased. We think the police were starting to arrest people.
Oh and the dog walkers here are impressive, they walk a herd of dogs at one time and all the pups are well behaved and walk along without pulling, fighting or barking. The parks are a mess (no rule about picking up after the dogs)
Tomorrow we are off to Ushuaia, hoping for an uneventful day of travel. Next post from the ship!
BTW, did I mention we are going to see penguins!
